  • Engine Descaler

I am getting ready to flush my engine with a descaling agent with a closed loop circulation pump set up. I understand that some newer engines with flush ports do not require you to remove the thermostat in order to ensure complete solution penetration throughout engine. However I am wondering if I should remove thermostat during the process. Or maybe it is not necessary. I wil not be running the engine during this process. Any input would be greatly appreciated. 2007 DF150 490 hrs.

If not running the motor, thermostat would stay closed, possibly causing flush to miss some areas. Yes, remove t'stat to let fluid flow freely throughout the block.

    Good luck.

thanks so much for your reply. I will post pics of process and results. Have not had any overheating issues, however i live in southwest florida. I only have well water to flush with, which is loaded with calcium and salt. Not the best option for engine flush. So this is pretty much a maintenance precaution.

As long you don't have problems with overheating or clogged water passages i would not use preventive descaling agent or stuff like this.
There are millions of outboards they get flushed with questionable (dirty flush tanks at dealerships for example) fresh water once a year and they are fine.
Use the flush port and you don't need to have the engine running.
