  • buying a boat with suzuki DF90 4 stroke 2005

    Hi Guys,

I'm about to pull the trigger and buy a boat that has a suzuki DF90 4 stroke 2005 on it. Am I crazy for doing so? I know about the exhaust port plug corrosion problem. Should I steer clear of this motor?

The guy is 62 years old and always takes it to a place in queensland, AU for serving and he doesn't know anything about the issue. I'm worried this means the corrosion has already started from the inside and the outside still looks fine but already has the cancerous effect.

Look, the corrosion in engine holder issue is well known, and while it does occur, it could be said that it is overblown somewhat.

The fact is that many motors in those early 90-140 series never have that issue. I am good friends with our local Suzuki dealer here in Cleveland AU and he doesn't see the issue very often.

So, if you have inspected the motor and there is no sign of it occurring after all this time, then most likely it won't happen.

Now, having said that you are buying a motor that is 11 years old, so it would be well worth taking it to a reputable Suzuki dealer and having a pre-purchase inspection carried out, and get a printout done from the ECU via the Suzuki SDS system. That will highlight nay faults that have occurred and the experienced Suzuki mechanic will know what they might mean and can advise you.

If you are in SEQ area pm me and I can recommend a couple of good Suzuki dealers for you.

thanks for the reply Moonlighter, I was hoping you would say that. I'm in NSW but I am trying to organize for someone to inspect the boat for me in SEQLD before I pick it up. He has sent me receipts of where he gets it serviced at Australian Marine Centre in Springwood and I was trying to organize an inspection through them. I'll PM you now for your suggestions.

      Cheers, much appreciated!
