DF200 4-2 code issue

Long story short, I bought a "new to me" dream boat but have had constant engine issues. the boat would not run over 3,000 rpms and so my marina mechanic has been working on it for a while. He replaced the IAC valve, low pressure fuel pump, cleaned the VST, and some other things he found.

This morning was my first attempt to go out after the mechanic gave me the green light and said it was running really well. I backed down the ramp, cranked up the engine, it fired and ran only to have it die after 3 seconds. This repeated 3 times before I gave up and brought it back to their shop.

The alarm was giving me the 4-2 code so I wonder if it's a bad sensor or if I have some other serious problem.

4-2 is another sensor crankshaft position sensor located under the flywheel
Could be a wire continuity problem or ECM failure
Check sensor and wiring

What year is the engine and how many hours on it?

its a 2006, and 350 hours on the engine

HP??? Pretty hard to try to help with limited information
350 hours is not overused so to speak
Tell us what the engine was doing that caused you to go to a mechanic in the first place
There are s half dozen things that can cause the engines rev limiter to restrict rpm's --I am not sure this sensor that triggered the 4-2 alarm is one of them

'''' If the crank sensor fails there will be no spark, the best way to test these is with a scope or scope meter, pull a lead off a spark plug put a small screw driver in the tip and crank the engine over with the tip near metal and see if it sparks. If it don't spark test the cranks sensor and the camshaft sensor, the crank sensor produces an ac voltage and the cam sensor produces a digital square wave. If you cant do it your self go to an auto electrician, or take a punt and believe the ecu code and change the sensor yourself easy two bolts and a wiring plug. Just make sure you have the right gap between the sensor and the reluctor bar.
