I installed a new analog hour gauge along with the new motor to keep up with the hours just in case the ECM has to be replaced in the future. With about 50 hours on the motor, the analog gauge has about 35 minutes more than the digital color gauge. I know that the analog gauge is always adding time whenever the key is on. Does the digital color gauge only add time when the engine is actually running?

Your digital gauge is reading directly off the ECU that is keeping track of the actually running time
Could the analog gauge be wired to a power source that is only available while the engine is actually operating?

Correct, the engine hours reported on the digital colour display comes direct from the ECU and is the actually running time.Comment
