  • 2004 DF 140 4 stroke

    Rebuilding a DF140.
Bad oil cooler dumped 5 qts when 6 miles offshore.
Knocking bad when back to shore.
Burned and stacked the third rod bearing.

Now Putting it all back together.
Question...the two back to back seals under the counter rotating main gear.
Where drive shaft comes up from Lower unit.

Which way do the seal lips turn??

This engine has signs of a previous rebuild.
And they left the lowest seal in and stacked two new ones on top of them!

Hey be very, very careful when ordering the engine holder gasket! I went thru this for my 2004. Right there somewhere in that time period, Suzuki made 2 different engine holder gaskets. The wrong one will allow water to get into the crankcase. I wish I would have written down the specifics back then, but this is all I remember...
