Need Tach unit for a df115 new here

Hey everyone new to the forum here, anyway i bought a proget boat with a df115 and need a tachometer what is my best option. i saw an analog white one on sale with warning lights was wondering if it does all the functions of a digital. If i'm not mistaken doesn't a suzuki beep an alarm when it needs an oil change if so is that reset from the tach? thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to the forum

The analogue Suzuki tach like the one at the link below would do the basic job - it will show engine revs and the warning lights will show alarms and fault codes by flashing in various sequences.

The oil light will also come on every 100 hours. The reminder is not reset on the tach, it is reset by doing the following:

1. Turn key off
2. Take off the safety lanyard
3. Pull out the safety button (where the lanyard was attached) 3 times in succession
4. The system will beep to show successful reset.

This tach will do the job quite satisfactorily if you just want basic functionality plus the Suzuki fault/alarm codes.

A proper "digital " tach is really a NMEA2000 display that can show a range of data when it an the engine are both connected to a NMEA2000 network. If you are interested in going down that path, read the sticky in the top part of the forum that explains Suzuki networks. It's going to cost quite a lot more than the tach linked earlier but gives you a lot more data. However resetting the oil change reminder is still done as described above.

Corrosion at engine holder port side if engine is up to 2009. After 2009 the corrosion problem is solved.

Make sure you have a quality water separating fuel filter in the fuel line between tank and primer bulb. Dirty fuel or water in fuel is the cause of many of the I ssues we see reported on this forum.

It could be worth changing all the engine fuel filters if you haven't got a service history and know they have been done recently.

Make sure you get the valve clearances checked and adjusted since the engine is new to you - this is often neglected but is an important servicing item - only has to be done every few years, may require special tools so if you have a good Suzuki dealer nearby may be worth a trip. Shims we used so you will need to buy them from Suzuki if any valve clearances need adjusting.

Drop the leg annually and if you change the impeller, make sure you change the stainless housing as well. The mian reason to drop the leg is to grease the drive spline so it doesn't get stuck up there!

Apart from that and the potential for corrosion mnetioned by the other member, nothing else particularly to look for, just the normal maintenance and flushing.

Oh and by the way, do not run the engine when flushing using the flushing port on the side of the engine!

The best muffs to use if you want to flush using them and running the engine are the old style small round ones. Make sure you've got good water pressure.

*** If all you want is a Tach (+hr-meter) buy a TINY TACH ! --- They are easy to hook up , inexpensive and reliable .
