DF90A oil change

When changing my oil, I first remove plug on top where oil is added. Then I remove the oil drain bolt on side of motor and old oil flows out. When removing the oil filter, there is always oil in the filter and filter housing. The circulating tube that the filter spins onto never seems to drain. Is there an air lock somewhere or is the oil only pumped at that point?? 2012 DF90A

Same thing happens to me, I just stuff a bunch of shop rags around the filter holder and mop out the residual oil.

@ Murray, thanks for the reply. I have been doing the rag thing also. Just making sure I wasn't missing something.
