Hi, I have new battery switch, cables, 2 new batteries. My issue is when I push the start button I hear the fuel pump turn on and the motor makes a 5 or 6 knock/click type noise from flywheel area. Almost like starter. I tapped the starter to no avail. No codes. If I had to guess I’d say the starter. Was wondering if any others had the same issue. Thanks for the help! Jeff

Have you checked the new batteries for proper voltage? The salesman will tell you that they are ready to go but depending upon the date of manufacture they might need a few hours on a charger. I’m assuming you gave all the contacts a good cleaning so they are nice and shiny? Is this issue new since you replaced the batteries or is this the reason you replaced the batteries? Google has lots of information on testing a starter/solenoid

Thanks for responding. I replaced the batteries, etc. as routine maintenance / months ago. The dates are current and I have run the boat several times since. The click noise is not the same noise as a dead battery type click. The click or almost like a knock noise is in a series of 6 knocks in a row after the start button is pushed once.

Finally traced down the no start. Kind of embarrassed to say...Bad ground cable from Neg battery post to hull grounding bolt. No visual signs of corrosion. I found it by bending it back and forth aggressively Along the entire 2 foot cable listening for crunchy sounds of corrosion. Didn’t ever hear crunchy sound but when I was done bending that cable around she started...That was one cable I had not replaced when I changed out my batteries. I didn’t realize the importance of ALL the grounds and the engines sensitivity to voltage. So to make sure I didn’t develop any other issues with voltage/starting I looked at the other cables that haven’t been replaced. Those were the power/ground coming off the motor. So I replaced them with a new cable assembly and cable loom from the motor to the boat. NOW all the cables are new and connections are shiny. Motor fires right up! Thanks so much for the help. I hope someone with a similar issue will benefit from reading this post. -Jeff
