  • Exchange broken Suzuki DT55 rpm-Meter

    Hi guys,

I have a DT55 from 1986 (2stroke) and my boat/remote control is equipped with an original Suzuki rpm-Meter.
During my last boat trip I recognized, that it is broken. Only during idle speed the needle is working.
If I start to throttle it does not move anymore. I recon the shaft is turning but the needle is not fixed on the shaft and cannot be tranported.
Can I take any other rpm-meter or is that a special SUZUKI patent.
The original part is obsolete and used one quiet expensive.
Please give me some tips what i can do!

    Thanks in advance

First, can you pull tach out and look at back?
How many wires go to tach?
Do you see a rubber plug? Pull it out? Do you see a switch in hole (remember where it is now, then turn several times back n forth, then leave it in same position as it was.)? Put rubber plug back, and see if the tach works?

If tach still not working, how many wires attach to tach?
If 3 (1-ground, 1-light, 1-tach) wires, then can swap with any tach. If your tach has more wires, then you might have other features on tach (monitor for motor). But if you have the wiring schematic, you might add a plain tach another place (try running with both tachs before drilling and mounting?) and leave your tach in place.

Good luck. Post back how it goes when able.
