  • DF6 runs rough over 40% throttle

Hi everyone, hope you can help as I am stuck on a tiny Pacific island.

My 1 year old suzuki df6 (similar to df4, df5) has started disengaging and running rough when I use over 40% throttle in gear. When I rev in neutral, no problem. When trolling it will disengage the drive and run rough until I throttle back, then you can feel it re-engaging the drive shaft again. The gear lever remains in forward gear throughout.

Is this the "over-revolution protection system" and if so, how can i fix it as i cant find any reference to it anywhere?

Hmmmm, lets see, your "stuck" on an island in the Pacific and your 6hp motor is not working right. Its a bit difficult for me to express concern when I am facing a Maine winter, but I did consider grabbing a new motor from my local dealer and offer to fly it out personally....but that would make two of us stuck on that island. Not a bad thought, really.

Well, someone with knowledge of these motors will reply soon and I suspect you don't need any more sarcasm from me so I'll shut up. Good luck.

the question I might pose is this only in forward gear or does it operate the same in reverse?
if it is not a problem with fuel, water in fuel, causing it to just run rough -
then what might be happening is the clutch lever (forward /reverse) may not be fully engaging and at higher rpms causing gears to disengage
so check the adjustment on the clutch lever to make sure it fully engages.
