My engine has been running good for awhile. This past weekend i took it out and it was running good for about 15 minutes then it started to bog down. The rev limit and temp light on my gauge lit up then the rev limit went away and the temp stayed on. The engine was "peeing good". I can usually get up to about 34 mph but whenever i tried to go past 27 the problem would repeat. I had trouble starting it back up after the second time the engine bogged down but eventually got it back running and just cruised back to the dock going about 20 mph. Anyone knows what could cause this?

how long has it been since the water pump was replaced?
even though it pees ok it still could not getting enough pressure to keep enough cooling water through the head
I don't know the specifics on your model but if it has a water pressure relief valve that would be something else that might be checked sometimes debris can keep the valve open

in my manual there are two things that trigger the overheat alarm and likewise will kick in the rev limiter
there is a cylinder temp sensor and also a exhaust manifold temp sensor
you should test those to make sure they are operating properly- if your model has them
might be a good idea to obtain the full service manual for your engine which contains all the specifics and how to check sensors and a ton of other information

Given the model year of your motor, have you checked the known issue of corrosion in the engine holder - near and just below where the fresh water flushing attachment connects?
If hot exhaust gases are being released from there they can damage the wiring harness and result in strange fault codes being thrown such as you are reporting.
You will have to remove the engine's top cowl and most likely also the lower cowlings to see this area properly.
