Fishing line stuck in Suzuki df200

I have a 2006 Suzuki df200. When I went to repaint my skeg I noticed that there was some fishing line stuck behind the item I have the arrow drawn to. Does anybody have an idea how to remove this piece? Would I be better off just to ignore it and let the fishing line wear away? Thanks in advance!

There is no way you want to leave fishing line anywhere near a gearbox seal, unless of course you want the seal to be damaged and water to get into the lower unit.
