DF90ATX shift shaft

While reinstalling my lower end (water pump kit change) I noticed the end of shift rod that goes up into the motor has a flat side. Tip of rod spline looks as though it could be missing a tooth. The image in the parts schematic was difficult to tell if it was correct as is. Part number 25111-87L10 "rod,shift". Thanks in advance for any info.

As I recall the two splined ends, which touch the flat side are sort of rounded, not really a sharp square. Are you sure it's missing a tooth?

Thanks for the come back Briscoe, I have dual 90s on my boat and will inspect the other motor this week when i change out the water pump
