  • 10W40 West Marine Syn Blend

There is a West Marine close by my location. Their 10W40 synthetic blend oil has the "marine' certification. Anyone use this oil? If not, (beside the Suzuki oil) what do y'all use?

Personally, I use Amsoil full synth. But I imagine the WestMarine blend should be acceptable.

      Thanks Mike.

Do you follow the Suzuki recommended service interval?

Well, sorta......I do it once a year. All the fluids. Don't put all that many hours on it. Had it for 7 years now and it has only 280 hours. I've used Amsoil products in everything I own, all my cars, trucks, diesel tractor, and boat. Once out of warranty, i've never followed factory intervals. Pretty much everything gets changed once a year. Just sold a 1990 Jeep Comanche P/U that I'd owned since new. Had 280K miles on it, never opened the engine, still ran like new, with 145-150 lbs compression in all 6 cylinders. Changed that to Amsoil after 20K miles of breaking in, then changed once a year for 25 years.

I have a brand new 115 with about 8hrs. on it. The dealer put Castrol in it from the start. Should I stay with that or change after the 20hours.

All the marine oils should be acceptable. Everyone has an opinion, everyone has a favorite. When Suzuki was marketing their own branded lubes they were a synthetic blend. I've always been partial to synthetic lubes, but like i said, everyone has their favorites.

There are other Suzuki owners that swear by Castrol. I'm sure your dealer knows what works well. Wondering why the motors are shipped "dry" from the factory??
