  • DT65 Will stop going from idel to troll

My 1986 DT65 Will die after about 18 to 25 sec when put in gear? I if I just got from Idle to 3/4 throttle it will go just fine all day but as soon as I go under 11 knots it will die.

It sounds like your low speed jets are dirty, or those air & fuel pas-sages for them are dirty, or the air mixture screws are not set by the manual (all carbs set the same per manual).

What do your plugs look like when you idle as slow as possible?

    Post back when able.

The plugs are black, and a lot of carbon on them and the gap was at .21 now at .32 and the book show .31 to .35 . all air & fuel is at 1 1/2. book shows 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 on 1986 DT 65.

Plugs being black indicates running rich (not enough air mixing with fuel at idle). So either your air pas-sages are blocked, adjustments are not good per manual (all carbs same), or low speed jets &/ mixture screws are not cleaned (or deformed, causing improper adjustment).

When a adjusting air-mixture/low speed screw, screw in until lightly seated, then unscrew each (one on each carb) to the setting the Suzuki manual (then do not change).

If still having problems, have you soaked carb and blown out all fuel and air pas-sages with good compressed air pressure after soaking?

        Good luck.

Thank you, I found the third carburetor was missing a pilot jet and gasket for needle valve assembly was on the main jet. And under the needle valve assembly was a spring? I have rebuilt both first, and third carburetors. The second one looks goods, as I think it was to much work to take (I hope)off.

Aging thank you, it is starting way easier and is now running great! I now need to find out why its not charging the battery.

Not charging battery may be connections at rectifier dirty / or bad rectifier/ diodes, or problem with magneto coils for charging. Test a-c current from magneto by manual, and check d-c current from rectifier by manual.

Glad you have carbs working better.

              Good luck.
