  • Dt65 coolant tell tail

I have a problem with the tell til indicator jet, there is an obstruction inside the cylinder head where the tell tail exits the engine. This will give you a changes from a normal jet of water to what can be termed a drip. Is it possible to remove the tube which exits the head to clear this obstruction. If not, what remedy can I apply to remove it, such as a solution added to the tank used to flush out the sea water. Advice would be much appreciated.

A lot of time, a stiff thick piece of monofilament can be pushed up the tell tale while running. Most often this will help dislodge most of the stuff blocking it.

If that doesn't work you can always add 4-5 gals of vinegar (or other corrosion flush liquid) in your flushing cantainer/drum (making sure it remains above the level of where your impeller is.), and run this solution through the motor for about 2 total hours (stopping only to allow solution to cool back down, then running again, till it gets hot again). Add water as needed to keep level up. Using same solution continuously until done.

Flush with fresh water after completed.

Good luck, post back how it goes when able.

Thanks for the info. What volume of water for 5 gals of vinegar. My flush tank holds approx 150 gallons.

Big tank. How much water in your tank does it take to cover the level of your water pump (you should have a couple inches above impeller location). I'm thinking you can use 8-9 gals, plus the water needed to get that level.

        Post back when able.
