  • Suzuki DT150 (year 2001)

    Hi Everybody,

I am writing from Finland - please understand my "not so good English" ;=D

Well, I have owned Suzuki DT150 (2001) outboard for few years and it has worked very well.

Unfortunately last weekend I had first difficulties with it. Let me explain...
When I started to accelerate I noticed that motor did not take rpms as easily as normally. In addition there was more smoke above sea than normally after acceleration. When I was driving on cruising speed (let us say 3500 rpm) motor was every now and then taking very minor "breaks" I mean I was able to hear that for few 1/20 seconds motor was going to turn off but then again everything continued as normally. After testing motor "at home" I noticed that previously motor was taking about 5500 rpm but now only 4500 when driving with full power.
Motor has been driven only 62 hours so it looks like a brand new.

I have tried to ensure that there is not water in fuel tank. Now I am wondering if some of spark plugs are malfunctioning. Even I changed all six plugs last spring 2016.

Any ideas what should I try next? Where do you expect problem be?

    Thanks for help in advance,

    Brgs,

    Jokerit

ps. does anyone remember which plugs are valid to this motor so I could buy them from Helsinki before driving to my summer cottage (where boat/motor are located)?

Have you looked at the new plugs you put in, to see if any show differences of how cylinders are firing? Do not mix up plugs, but can you take a pic of the 3 on port side, then a pic of 3 on starboard side, and post them here?

Did you buy this motor new, only owner? Have you flushed motor good after using every time? Do you use ethanol gas with alcohol, or marine gas (no alcohol). Do you use a good fuel additive in every tank full?

How do you store motor when not using it?

We need to know a little more about your motor to help. Please post back some more info to help us help you.

    Good luck.

This should be your spark plug...
