Thank you, indeed there was a small hole in the fuel filter housing. When I primed the engine in my driveway, ready to start it (on a hose), saw fuel squirting out of the top of the fuel filter. The fuel filter is upstream from the fuel pump, ie the fuel pump sucks fuel from the filter. Therefore, if the filter has a leak, it would play out as air in the fuel system. Replaced the filter housing and will test this Sunday, will report back
