  • 2016 Suzuki DF 140 outboard

I was told that Suzuki used a Zinc exhaust plug in this motor and not the steel...I have been told I do not need to replace with aluminum plug...advice requested

If you are referring to the issue relating to corrosion in the DF140 series engine holders in a steel plug that is often talked about, then you have no worries:

That issue was resolved back in about 2008 when Suzuki completely redesigned the engine holder.

      Exhaust plug not holder

I am referring to the engine steel exhaust plug that was going to be used as an O2 sensor. Suzuki used a steel plug in an aluminum block which over time reacted with the aluminum and thus a extremely serious issue with the corrosion. I just bought a 2016 DF 140 for my boat and had the 20 hr service done and requested my mechanic to replace the plug. He stated that Suzuki had changed the plug to zinc in 2011 and that I would be ok. I could not find that information anywhere and want to be sure. Is this the same issue you speak about moonlighter? Love the motor but don't want to have to buy a new one because of a small and simple fix....

Yes, you are talking about the same thing as me.

It was fixed way back in 2008/9. The plug was eliminated from the casting altogether. No longer an issue.
