prop shaft seal replacement

I have a DF225 and got fishing line wrapped around the prop. I have replaced both prop shaft oil seals but can't figure out how the seal protector, the clip and the propeller stop go together. My protector was torn up and the clip was just loose on the shaft. There was another ring that doesn't show in the parts diagram between the stop and the bearing. I tried our local dealer and he couldn't find the ring part either. Can anyone help with this part of the assembly?

Is the seal protector really necessary? It looks like mine has been loose for a long time.
