  • DF15 issues

Looking for some help regarding performance on my DF15. I bought it two years ago with my Towee Calusa, but I believe it's a 2012, maybe? When I purchased it I had a lot of issues with impellers/water intake as the previous owner had burned out the impeller. Fast forward getting through those issues (my local marine mechanic gave it the shake down and replaced what was needed), I'm now having issues with the engine firing up first time and running at full throttle.

It has been suggested that I have fuel issues and need to take a part the carb to clean everything up, but I wasn't so sure about that idea. Does this outboard have EFI? Any ideas?

If you have carburator(s), then you do not have Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI).

If you think carb has to be cleaned, then take pics of each step and record settings of each adjustable mixture screw (how many turns to put each back exactly as they were). Do not remove any linkages, or other parts. Electrical parts can be removed for soaking if they do not require adjustments. All pas-sages must be blown out with compressed air when cleaning. If you have multiple carbs, do each one separately, so parts are not mixed up between carbs. Float adjustment must be done on each carb because needle valve seats should be changed each time carbs are cleaned.

If the impeller was burned up, motor was started with dry impeller. It is possible for impeller to fragment and pieces can lodge in water pathways.

ALL impellers will burn up if they are not submerged in water before flywheel is moved by starter, or pull cord.

Good luck, post back on what you find in carb(s), it might tell you if something else needs attention/replacement.
