  • DF90A Water pump

Hey guys, my 2015 df90a is up for its 200hr service. Looking at the service manual it say inspect the waterpump right upto 60 months or 500hrs. How long should these be left before replacing.
I change the impellor every 100hrs even though lm not running in dirty water or shallow ground for piece of mind.
    Whats peoples thoughts.
    Cheers Paul

Changing the water pump ever 100 hours is probably an over kill if you use you are using you boat regularly. Depending on the climate where you store your boat and the frequency that you use your boat may be a better indicator on the frequency that you change the impeller. I have twin DF140's on my boat, I changed the impeller on my starboard engine at 300 hours (4 years) the port engine still has the original impeller 500 hrs. (8 years).

I monitor the pee stream regularly and can see no difference between the two engines. The impeller that I changed looked like it was brand new and I carry it as a spare.

I am going to change the impeller on the port engine this fall just because of it's age.

My boat is stored ins inside and I never crank the engines with dry impellers.

One of the issues with leaving the impeller more than a year or two is the risk of being able to get bolts holding the leg undone, and also greasing the upper splines on the drive shaft.

Its not an expensive part to change. And I would rather not risk a critical system that cools my engine for a few $. Mine gets done every 12-18 months regardless of hours.
