  • 2014 Suzuki DF300 ignition / neutral issue

Have tried looking through the threads and haven't quite found anything similar so I figured I would ask on here.

Motor is 2014 DF 300, has a key on off and kill switch as well as the single motor control push to start, select and throttle only. Two round smis gauges.

Motor starts up fine and runs, no codes but then out of nowhere it the smis gauges will beep and say neutral (though the throttle is in forward) and then the motor dies. Pull back to actual neutral and it fires right back up. Had happened at various rpms including while cruising. Boat temp and top rpm all seemed fine. It does seem to happen more at lower rpms. Fuel ball was good.

To make it even weirder, I tied up to the dock and had the motor off but the key on looking at the gauges. It tried and turned itself 2 or 3 times without me pushing the button.

The red light above the start/ stop button comes on and off as well.

I'm confused and just looking for any tips or help. Thanks everyone.

Sounds like you have an electrical issue, possibly in the throttle box. Any signs of water having got in there or in the start button panel?? Wires chafed in behind??

But really, only guessing. I have been on this forum for wuite a few years and have never heard a similar issue reported.

This might be something that you need a really experienced Suzuki mechanic to invertigate, one who knows the Suzuki FBW system intimately.

Thanks, yeah I have been looking all over and cant find anything similar. I pulled the little plug off the binnacle front and some water dripped out but not a crazy amount. Just odd. I turned on the key to check fuel levels and without touching the start button it fired up. Weird. Definitely something electrical. I got a guy coming to look at it and if not it's a long ride to the ramp with many restarts. I was compounding the boat and caught a wire that goes into the brown harness by the transom but it didnt damage it or loosen anything that I could see or discover. May be it. The wires all under the helm are good as far as I can tell. Just odd that it's the smis gauges saying neutral then the engine stalls even though the throttle is forward. Then sometimes it just keeps firing to run then stall then fire again. The start stop wouldnt stop the motor once and has to push it harder then normal but certainly not heman strength. The one thing I would like to know is what do the lights above the start stop indicate? My oil and codes are on the smis. The little red light above start stop flickers or stays on now and I dont remember it doing that. Cant find out what the lights mean even searching the part number. Thanks for the reply.
