Is my engine ok?

I have a 2005 50 hp 4 stroke gotitready for the summer.I had it serviced at end of last season.I put in fresh gas started it on the hose and started fine ,idled fine.Now I know in the manual it says not to rev engine on the hose but I did just some.It sounded like it was surging.Is this normal under no load?

Hmmm, if it hurts when you do "this" don't to "this" - but seriously, don't chase ghosts, put it in the water and run it then come back if there is a problem. You may have simply run up against the rev limiter but it is not worth your time to try to find something which you can't duplicate unless you do "this" again. Go have fun.

It should be fine. it probably sureges, because the limiter kicks in when you have it in neutral (prop not turning but trhottle advanced) It is limited in most cases to 3000 RPM in this configuration.
