2015 30 hp motor, which is great except for a couple of issues
    1. in neutral, when the idle speed control is lifted, the engine surges. Any ideas?
    2. When running on plane, then reducing RPM fairly quickly to get off plane, the engine makes a noise like a belt is slipping. Doesn't look like there are any belts on the motor, so what could it be?
    Any help will be appreciated

    1. In neutral, revs are limited to about 3000rpm, if you rev it up the limiter will cut in and it will miss, surge and carry on. Solution: dont rev the engine in neutral!! If for some reason you seem to need to do this, then there is another problem - find the problem and fix it.

    2. Avoid sudden deceleration off the plane. Wake can catch up and flood over the transom if you are not careful. Strange noise could be anything. Need more information.

Thanks for the quick reply. Another thread mentioned the rev limiter. I tried using the idle lever to 2000 rpm and it was steady so that was it. As you said - no need to rev it in neutral!
Re the deceleration, I'm coming off plane in a 13 whaler (2002) with full transom. I gradually slow down- no worries about the wake. The whistle nose is intermittent. Could it be from the intake air box maybe resonating? Someone else mentioned observing this on a larger Zuke motor.

I've got a 2015 DF25A - which is basically the same motor, though mine is short shaft. I've never noticed a sound as you describe when I stop, though I must admit it's hard to imagine the sound from your description.

Pure speculation... The engine has this big plastic cowling above the foot, right? Below the removable cowling. When you're at speed, this bit plastic-encased volume is filled with air. When you stop, depending on how high your motor is mounted, I suppose a significant part of this volume could fill with water, displacing the air. Could it be that this escaping air is whistling through some joint, or maybe escaping through the upper cowling? Have you tried running the motor with the top cowling removed?

        Or you could just fuggitaboutit...

Good thought on running w/o the cover. I'll try it and see if the noise goes away.
