  • My first Suzuki Outboard 2002 DF90 Issue

Didn't purchase this boat yet, but I realized that it has a bent prop shaft. Doesn't have play fore and aft or side to side, but when I spin it in neutral, it does have about a 1/8 inch off center shaft in rotation, so it's about 1/16 from center. Is this a big deal? Enough of a bend to get it repaired. I noticed a slight vibration, but nothing real bad. Any ideas of the cost to purchase parts and do it myself? I'm sure I can replace the shaft and a few seals. Thanks in advance.

I would not buy it without them fixing it, and a statement from the mechanic that all is well. Yes, 1/16 is a lot when turning 6000 rpms. If they run it very long with a bent shaft, you stand a chance of having to replace the lower unit.

Good call hogfan. The cost of these repairs might be determined by how many "minutes" this motor has been run with the bent shaft.

      Good luck.

I bumped the top of a sunken piling.. not going fast but...
it pushed in the one prop blade that hit and that could not be adjusted out
and bent the drive shaft the prop attaches to.. maybe not as bad as what you describe.. $$$$ (I don't have the figure off the top of my head)
the drive shaft for your engine (from parts page on this site) is around $250
        however, it should be fixable.
either have the previous owner fix the problem or take the boat/engine in for a mechanical check up and get a good estimate for fixing and adjust down your purchase price accordingly ..

there may even be other problems as well. should do a compression and leak-down test as a minimum.

        art..
