  • Please help... EP-20 / LMF-400... Help.

Lost all engine data on my port motor. The device bus still shows, but I am unable to unconfig it. When I go to uncofig, it cycles, but when it returns to the bus device screen it still shows a "Port" instead of as "Unconfigered"... (When I unconfig the starboard one, it does what it should (same for both fuel interfaces)...

I disconnected all power, did resets, etc. Even disconnected all plugs and reconnected. Same problem.

It was literally working and then it stopped.

Motor appears to be working just fine -- just no data coming over the NMEA.

My guess is that I need a new EP-20. My set up is a little old (2006 DF250)... my Firmware for the gauges is 1.0.

    What are my options?

    Thanks,
    Pete

Replied to your post on THT.

It is likely to be either a failed physical connector (a bad T piece or a broken wire in a plug) between the engine and the network, or a failed interface cable.

I suspect you have to old Lowrance blue T pieces? If so, they can get corroded, so disconnect the interface T piece and check all sides of the plugs for corrosion. Try swapping T connectors between the interfaces to see if that helps to reveal one that has failed internally. Check the plugs from the interface cable/adapter cables to the SDS plug on the engine for corrosion or breaks.

If your checks as suggested above reveal no obvious bad connections, then it is likely to be a interface cable gone bad (BTW no-one refers to them as a EP-20 any more, they are not sold under such a label, just referred to as the Suzuki engine interface cable for at least last 5 years.)

If you need a new cable I suggest you contact Mike at International Marine, you will need a new cable that is programmed with software version 2.30 to suit your 2006 year engine. The new cables come preprogrammed with either V 2.9.0 or 3.5.0 and neither of those will work with your engine, but Mike seems to be one of the few dealers able to source cables than can be programmed with V 2.30.

      Thanks for the reply!

I've checked and triple checked all the connections. I've done every power reset I could think of.

The *only* thing I can think of is that I have NOT run the motor with the engine interface disconnected. I also haven't tried taking the white power (ECM power) wire off the battery AFTER I took the engine module off. And then put the Engine module back on... not sure if that would help at all, but it's about the only voodoo I haven't tried.

I have sent a PM to Mike at International Marine (yesterday) and plan to call this morning. I really appreciate the tip on the versions.

      I'll hunt this thing down!!!

      Many thanks for your help!!
