Can I change the ECU (Computer Module) in my 2002 DF40 to get performance up to 50hp?

If you look up the part on the part page and click on the part - at the bottom of that page shows all the different models it is interchangeable with
It is the same part on the 2002 DF50
So the ECM is not going to make it run any differently

Have a read of this thread:

Some interesting possibilities being explored to get more hp out of a 40/50 Suzuki 4 stroke.

The question was if TD changed the ECU could he get the performance of a 50HP engine The simple answer is no
The thread you mention is yes you can increase performance with some mechanical changes
I can take my Corvette 405HP and turn it into 700 HP
the real question might be how much do you have to do and spend to get a 40 to a 50HP and in reality how much more are you really going to improve on what you already have? I don't have an answer to that.

It is normal here in Italy that the usual 40HP rental RIB's have the 50/60 HP ecu instead of the original 40 hp ecu.
This should give more power making them running with less stress and allow a bigger rib to run with a "declared" 40 hp engine.
This is obviously absolutely illegal as in Itlaly max HP for use without boat driving license is 40HP max.

If someone would like to know the exact part number and for what engine i can ask for it.

          Chris

P.S. i am not sure if this applies to the OP's 2002 DF40, but this practice is already a long time common.
