I have a pair of 2000 dt225's that run strong and smooth but on cold start smoke for a few minutes until warm. Once warm no smoke at any rpm. Is there a check valve in the oil injection system that would keep oil from accumulating during shut down time?

Yes there are check valves on all the oil injection lines to each cylinder.
The oil pump, is also gear driven, creating a positive pressure on all the lines feeding each cylinder. At shut down, that positive pressure will allow a slight release of oil to each cylinder until that positive pressure from the pump balances out. That release of oil will sit in each cylinder until the next time the motor is started, combined with the start-up oil being sent to each cylinder.
This is normal, and not something to worry about.
Good luck.
