  • 2013 df115a ECU repair

So my df115a is having the IAC/ECU issue that some 2013 engines are known for.

*IF* instead of buying a new/updated ECU, I have my current ECU repaired by a company that specializes in this, am I wrong in assuming that the issue could happen again to a new IAC and the repaired ECU? If I were to buy a new ECU, is it an "updated" version to eliminate this from happening again?

    Thanks

      2013 df115a

Engine starts then immediately stalls unless the idle screw is turned up to 900rpm.

The IAC is bad, tested to confirm. A new IAC has the same symptoms as the bad IAC, tested to confirm the new IAC is indeed good. An unplugged IAC has the same symptoms.

These (and my local Zuk shop) confirm the ECU is bad. Which was a relatively common issue on 2013 df115a and df140a engines.

My question is if a new ECU that would be purchased from Suzuki now is in some way "updated" or "fixed" and will not become damaged in the same way as the original. Also, if I were to send off the current ECU to be repaired, would it still run the risk of becoming damaged in the same way that it originally was?

They should replace the IAC valve with a new one, and from what I understand, they also need to replace the throttle control body - they changed the design on your model and it has subsequently changed to a new design (similar to the one on the older models earlier than yours) and that has prevented any recurrence. ECU’s will also replaced at the same time.

Your Suzuki dealer should be aware of all of this, if not, they should talk to their Suzuki regional rep.

A mate of mine had what was then the first case of this issue happen to his twin 115A’s. I have only heard of one other report since then, yours is the third.

With the repair/update done as above, he has run for over 2 years without any further issue. His was, and yours should all be done under warranty, so the dealer should handle the ecu replacement.

Thanks. When looking up my symptoms, I found quite a few 2013s that have needed the ECU and IAC swapped under warranty. My Suzuki dealer is familiar with the issue too.

My problem is that the original boat mfgr/dealer never transferred registration/ownership with Suzuki. So since it isn't registered to me, we can't do any warranty requests. I'm working on getting it registered to me but I am not the original purchaser, so not sure if that will happen.

With my luck I'll be footing the bill myself. Therein lies the reason for my original question, if a company repairs my ECU (if possible), is the issue likely to return. If so I'll bite the bullet and buy a new ECU to avoid it.

          I appreciate the advice.
