  • 2003 DF 140 help me understand this corrosion issue?

    New to me boat.
    Motor has around 160 hrs.
Removed the side panel tonight to look at the plug.
    Looks clean and untouched.
    Replace the plug with aluminum?

    Ty.

      Hi Dennis

      Welcome to the forum!

That looks like an extremely clean and well cared for motor.

Frankly, the corrosion issue around that plug is somewhat over-done. The truth is that not every motor is affected, many have no issue arise ever, as is evidenced by the condition of your newly acquired motor.

My suggestion would be to leave it alone, just keep an eye on it, and check it at your annual service.

A more important thing is to check the internal anodes in the block, if neglected, the internal corrosion protection is compromised. If you trailer the boat, again these are an item to be checked and if necessary replaced at your annual or 100 hr service (whichever comes first).

Good luck with the new boat, hope to see you back here posting some photos of your latest catch in the sticky thread at the top of the forum!
