  • Motor trimming on its own

I have a 2012 DF 300. Was out fishing and the motor trimmed up by itself. It would not trim down by either switch. We lowered the engine by the relief valve. As soon as the key was turned on it trimmed up again. We again lowered the engine and zip tied the limit switch closed so the engine would not trim up. Got us back to the ramp.
Does this sound like a relay failure or other cause.

this more than likely is the trim switch on the side of the engine
disconnect the wiring and the trim switch on the remote will more than likely work

I had water intrusion into that switch that shorted it out
I took that switch apart to find the problem - cleaned up the insides -put it back together and used it until getting a replacement
