Purchased a boat a couple weeks ago and after lots of research had a 250 Suzuki as part of the package. Boat is a Alumicraft 205 Competitor. The engine came with a 16"x25p prop. The motor is hitting almost 7000 rpm's at that speed. Shouldn't a rev limiter kick in? Maybe the tach is off? Any help would b greatly appreciated.

tell us what are the other electronics you have, i..e. gps/depth finder
most of the Suzuki's have a top end at 6000 to 6200
if your tach is working correctly, would not press it any higher that 6200
reason for question - depending on what you have for other equipment, you may be able to tie the engine together with the gps/fishfinder with a network cable and basically be able to read all the engine out put data
also what year and model is your Suzuki?
and when you said a 16 inch prop, I am thinking too small,,
but there are others on this board that are much better at advising what prop size might work best for you, but you need to verify your tach it working correctlly..

your Helix units are NEMA compliant units
Moonlighter is best on the electronic stuff.. can read his "sticky" at the top of the forum page
need the backbone cable, the Suzuki engine interface cable, and the connectors
..
question: does this unit use a NEMA 2000 system to tie in the GPS antenna and transducer with your chart plotter?
If so, all you should need the the engine interface cable and another connector.

There is no way it will rev to 7000rpm without the rev limiter kicking in! Happens about 6350. Prevents it revving any faster.Originally posted by mathesons View Post
