  • Suzuki Tachometer /over-rev issue

Hello All, I am new to the forum. Thank you for all the great information provided here. I have a 2005 DF140 and just installed a new Suzuki Tachometer with engine monitor. It is the exact same one that I removed (needle was sticking). The new tach seemed to be operating correctly but the over-rev light starts blinking when the tach reads 5600 rpm. Max RPM for the motor is 6200. I think the over-rev light is activated by the ECM at 6300 rpm. The new tach appears to be reading lower than actual rpms. There is no adjustment on this tach. Any ideas what is going on?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The new tach has a needle, indicating it is not digital. Then look for a rubber plug on the back. Under the plug should be a switch, post back and let us know what it is set on.

    Good luck.

Hi Solarman, I am out of town or I would take a picture. There is no switch on the back. The instructions included with the tach refer to a switch to change the number of "poles". However, the switch is not there. There is a piece of white tape covering a hole. Around the hole there are numbers 4,6,12 (if i remember correctly) and looks like a dial switch should be there. Inside the hole there appears to be a tiny screw that may be accessible with a very small screwdriver. I called the dealer and they told me the tach was not adjustable and that it should work fine with my motor. The tach is Suzuki Part Number 99105-80101. Thanks.

skeeter15, here's a sheet of installation instructions for that tach.

Pay attention to the last page, troubleshooting and the application chart. That little screw you mentioned might be all there is. It should be on 12.

And the dealer is wrong (surprise, surprise)....
