Suzuki DF140A vs. DF115A

Hi. Im buying a new boat and motor here in Norway, a HR532 CC with a Suzuki DF140 ATL. Is there any difference what so ever between this engine and DF115 ATL, except the RPM-range?

Was this engine new from 2012, or newer than that? I don't find much info on Wikipedia on it...

I have noticed that the weight of the 140 HP enine is a few kilos lighter than the 115 HP one. Thats strange...

They are from the same engine "family", and share the same engine block and cc capacity. The 140 uses some different manifold and other components made from lightweight materials that account for the lighter weight.

Plus of course a different engine mapping from the ECU to produce the extra horsepower.

It is a pretty common thing for manufacturers to have the same basic engine tuned and featured a little differently to produce a range of horsepowers.

Get the 140 if ypu have the choice. It never hurts to have some more power. At cruise revs it will use the same amount of fuel as the 115.

Both are very nice motors. The A series came out in 2012 and only very minor tweaks and cosmetic changes since then.

Ok Moonlighter, thanks. I have bought the 140 HP engine, but I heard from one of the guys in the boat shop that it was the same engine, and another guy told me the same as you, that some of the components was changed in order to handle the extra horse-powers. I'll probably go for the same propeller as the 115 HP engine, 21" in one turn (don't know what you call it in english), and same diameter (think it is 14") alu-propeller. They didn't provide stainless steel until 150 HP engines, they said.
