  • NMEA 2000 gauge problems

I have a 2012 Stratos 326XF with a NMEA 2000 network and a 2012 DF225. I had all the engine data available on a multifunction gauge (Beede) and also my networked Lowrance units. I turned the motor on while out on the water and lost all the data coming through the NMEA network, which led me to thing the engine interface cable was out. The dealer agreed, and ordered a new interface cable and installed it, but the data I got back was trim, tach, and voltage. It incorrectly showed my engine temp at 419 degrees even when it hasn't been run, and there is no fuel flow data at all, and the tach cuts out once in a while for a second. The water pressure gauge seems to function erratically even though it is not part of the network. Could this be because the new engine interface cable is version 3.5, and my 2012 engine needs version 2.9? If so, will updating to v. 2.9 override 3.5 and fix it? Thanks for your help!

Bob, yes, it is likely to be the software. Go back to your dealer who installed the new cable and ask them to sort it out, they should know what to do.

Thanks, I am hoping my dealer knows how to do the software update!

I was able to do the 2.9 software update using my Lowrance Unit, that fixed the problem. Moral of the story, make sure your engine interface cable has the right software version!

Just to confirm. You successfully went from v3.5 to v2.9 using your lowrance HSD? Which HDS do you have. I ask because I have been unsuccessful at downgrading from v3.5. I am having very similar problems that you were experiencing.

I have an HDS-12 Gen 2, I went to the sticky from Moonlighter (thanks!) and downloaded the 2.9 .luf file from the following link https://www.dropbox.com/s/xpfrk9v4im...2.9.0.luf?dl=0

I then put it on a SD card, inserted it into the HDS unit, and turned on the engine (didn't start it, just set to on), and lowrance units connected to the NMEA backbone. If you go to Files and open your SD card, you should see the 2.9 luf file, highlight it and it will prompt to install, proceed, and hopefully you will see everything on your gauges reset before your eyes upon completion of the install. It was surprisingly simple. I had to get a new engine interface cable, apparently they can go bad, but it needed the right software package. Good luck!

              Important message!

I am told by US based Suzuki dealers that the new interface cable versions that have part numbers ending in -290 or -350 cannot be downgraded to versions below 2.9.0.

So if you need to use an earlier version (eg with engines 2009 and earlier in particular) get in quickly and find a dealer that can supply the old version cable that is downgradable to V 2.5 or lower.

I am talking to a couple of dealers and hope that they can prevail upon their Suzuki reps to do something about this issue.

              Stay tuned.....
