  • How to remove a stuck magnetic drain screw?

    Hello,

I want to change my lower gear unit for my two stroke 1996 DT40 (40 hp) outboard motor. However, my drain screw is stuck and I can not twist it free at all.

Any advice on how to remove it? I sprayed Wd 40 and still won't budge. So frustrating as I am starting to strip the drain screw.

      as Mmanuel already wrote,
get a impact driver with a big wide (but corresponding to the screw slot) flat screwdriver insert, push it in the slot and tap it with a hammer.
Try first to use moderate force while hammering, the impact from the hammer usually unblock the tread and also turns the scredriver instert to twist the screw.
Impact Screwdrivers are a very handy and cheap tool for stubborn screws!

Be very careful to not strip the screw completely, if you strip it you will be in deep trouble!

Does the fact that your next post is asking where to buy a new one tell me you destroyed this one?
If not I will tell you how I do it
