Universal CDI

Hello, does anyone have any experience of Universal CDI units?

They are very simple devices, nothing more than an electronic switch and all do the same job; pattern ones seem to be very popular on bikes.

My problem is I have a dead CDI on a very old DT28 (1980's) and a new one cost three times as much as the engine is worth!!

Any suggestions ?

Best chance might be check all dealerships & marinas that sell motors, as any of those businesses might have scrap motors in their yard from change-outs?

Universal cdi

I had the exact same problem, cdi broken, but I went on ebay and bought a cdi for a 2 stroke dc type (4 pin verson) and it worked like a charm. The boat runs like never before.
