  • 1986 Suzuki dt115 not pumping water

Hey guys I hope maybe someone has an answer for me. I have a 86 DT115 that I cannot get to pump water. Initially started with overheating at high RPM. Pulled the thermostat and it was broke open. I ordered a new one but put the cover back on temporarily. I dropped the lower, put in a new water pump kit along with a new gasket for the sub water pickup tube. I have tried running the engine in a tank and on a hose. Nothing seems to work. I have checked and double checked keyway and impeller rotation. It had a tell tale stream at idle and half thottle before all this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ok you said you replaced sub water gasket? Did you put the stainless heat-shield back in place properly? Which gasket are you talking about? Did you try running with new pump impeller? What happened? At what rpms are you having problems?

You have to be a bit more specific when describing what's going on, for those of us on this side of the forum. We are looking at a screen here, not your motor.

You are our eyes and ears, otherwise we don't get the picture?

    Past back when able.

The gasket I was talking about is the rubber seal for the sub water tube. I pulled it completely apart and found the issue. The seal had been pushed out of the way when I was installing the sub water pickup. It was blocking water from entering the pump housing. Got it all back together and it's pumping great now. Figured I'd post a follow up and let everyone know what I found. Seems a lot of threads go without a solution posted.

Glad to hear. Many do try to update, but being relieved to get problems repaired, and taking off to enjoy their toys, some do forget. Thanks again.

        Happy boating.

          Cooling Water Cover Corrosion

I have a 2003 140hp that the tale tail had quit. Returned to service center to have water pump checked. What they found was a plugged front cooling water cover that apparently didn't flush out well and corroded a hole in the casing that it mounts on. The problem is obvious, the tubing nipples are smaller than pencil thickness. Any debris that the engine will pull up through normal cooling can easily plug it up not allowing to flush. Like so many other owners mine too has low hour usage, and always flush well out because of saltwater. Their customer service is pretty sad too. Casing will have to be welded to seal. Not happy with Suzuki not having tech. Depth. To talk to.
