  • how to remove zinc anode

I have purchased replacement zinc anodes for my Suzuki DF 15. I removed the bolts that hold on the zincs. I had no trouble removing part# 41811-98500, but when I removed the bolt that holds part# 55321-93900, the (round) zinc anode that is attached to the bottom of the cavitation plate would not budge! So, how do I remove that in preparation for installing the new replacement. Do I try to knock it sideways with a punch ('spin' it in its recessed 'hole')" or is there a preferred technique to get the old one out? Thank you for your assistance, it is greatly appreciated.

You most likely have to open the rubber cap above the anode on the upper side of the lower unit and unscrew the bolt inside to free the anode tab.

Thanks for replying. I probably should have specified that my DF15 is model year 2003. That model may require a different process to change the circular zinc anode on the bottom of the anti-ventilation plate. I looked at my engine and I do not see the rubber you describe on the upper housing. Any further ideas/suggestions. Thank you for you input.

On lower units using a anode with a tab the bolt is mounted with a bolt from above.
If you removed the center bolt (where the hole is) then the anode should come off, if she is sticking due to corrosion then you may tap the anode lightly with a hammer to break her loose.
Using a hook you may pull hard from below or using a screw driver introduced in the hole you may wiggle her loose.
