My 3 year old 2.5hp Suzuki was dying after running under load. I also noticed that the oil level was too high, black oil.
I performed a service and found a brush hair in the float chamber.
This didn't fix the problem.
After leaving it for a while it often is difficult to start. Once idling, it dies on throttling. Eventually it gets running with no load.
On load, it sounds too noisy. If I keep the throttle constant it keeps going. As soon as I throttle down, it dies. Then I can restart it and carry on.
I'm wondering if this is a serious fault, e.g. petrol entering the sump and thinning the oil (hence the oil level too high).
Rather than take it to a dealer, I could replace the carb but this is a gamble.
Sailing on a shoestring.
