The barrel nut and gear linkage rod on my engine were both stripped when I replaced my water pump. I tried to retread the linkage rod with no luck due to it's location. Not sure how to proceed if this rod can be replaced.

The shift linkage rod can be replaced, if available? If it is the upper rod, it may require removal of carbs, or maybe the powerhead, I don't know on your motor? That rod, the barrel nut/connector, and the locking nut are critical for proper shifting adjustment.
I don't know if it can be removed by removing the lower unit (from below) on your model?
You may find something through googling it online? Sorry, just not that familiar with your model.
Good luck.

repair manual
Yea I have no real idea. Bought a repair manual from tradebit but it was worthless, guess that's what I get for thinking $9.95 download would be helpful. I have bought the clutch rod, a new barrel nut and the clutch boot which the clutch rod is inside of. The parts guy said he thought it could be pulled out. Have not got the parts yet and the diagram is not 100% revealing of how everything attaches. If anyone has an idea, no luck on the web so far but they stock the parts so it must be replaceable. Yep Help!!!!
