I got an impeller from my Suzuki dealer and took the boat to a Mercury shop to put it in. Tech there says I should always replace the housing also. Suzuki dealer says he hasn't replaced a housing in 20 years and not to do it unless there is physical damage visible. Who is right?

I always get the kit done, rather than just the impeller. You run in sandy or muddy areas, plates etc get worn. My personal view is that a healthy flow of water keeps my valuable engine alive and well, so im prepared to spend the few extra $ every 100hrs to do that.
Its why Suzuki and other dealers have these pre-prepared kits in stock.
