  • DF140 tell tale issues

I just picked up a 2005 DF140 4 stroke. When I put the muffs on it this weekend to run it a bit before taking it to the lake I noticed a few things.

    1. The water coming out the tell tail was like it was running out of a garden hose with muffs on "no squirt like I am assuming is normal on motor".

    2. When I put my finger 3/4 the way over tell tale hole it would squirt a couple feet.

    3. Is the tell tale supposed to be about 3/8'' open tube or am I missing something back there to build up pressure.

Just hoping for any suggestions need pump rebuild, thermostat, or blockage?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

I would first run weed eater line or something small into the tell tail hole to see if there is blockage. Then check to make sure thermostat isn't stuck. It would be a good idea to change impeller anyways if it hasn't been recently but for now you could place motor in a tub and see if the flow increases. Sometimes muffs aren't good enough. Good luck with the motor.

You are missing the small restrictor that you can rotate that has hole less than 1/8" in diameter. You can rotate piece that your are missing in different directions to direct the tell tale flow.

Would any one happen to have a part # or know what the piece is called?

You can find all the parts that makeup the assembly at Brownspoint.com, they have microfilm picture and with pictures/parts numbers/price.

You should be able to identify what parts you actually need.
