DF300AP Runs okay, loses power, then runs okay

I was out today in my boat with a 2014 300AP running about 4000 rpm and getting 2.5 mpg indicated on the C10 gauge which is normal. Several times, the mpg would drop to 2.0 mpg, the boat would slow some and the engine sounded like it was running rough. After a minute or two, everything would return to normal. Any ideas??

Fuel restriction, my best guess. But how would the C10 register low fuel at that time? Unless possibly the C10 correlates fuel usage from voltage, related to high pressure pump, and this may reflect a voltage/ pressure situation in fuel system?

Just trying to think about it?
