I put the boat in the water today and started it up without a problem. When I tried to put the boat in reverse the shifter felt stiff and I was unable to get it in gear. I then tried forward and it went in gear but was so stiff i could not get it to rpm. When I tried to put it in nuteral, it would not go in to nuteral. I had to shut the motor off while in gear. I took the boat home and disconnected the shift cable from the shift linkage and was unable to move the shift linkage. The throttle linkage is fine but the shift linkage is frozen. I tried putting lube around the bushing but no luck. I was thinking of pulling the lower unit off but since it's still in gear I'm worried I'll break something. Any ideas?

Linkage is inside the engine holder
Well, i hope it's not at the linkage where it shifts the motor, as that's underneath engine holder. Did u try disconnecting cable from linkage on side of motor and moving the shifter by hand? At least that would rule out cable.
Not much help, but u have to start somewhere and it's the easiest start point. Next is dropping the lower unit and seeing if the shifter operates then. If it operates then, the issue is inside the lower unit. Uh oh......
Good luck

Df115 won't shift
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I did disconnect the shift cable from the shifter bellcrank but so its not the cable. I suspect from reading other posts that it might be corrosion under the engine holder. I'll pull the gear case and see if the shift rod moves.
