  • Died while running, crank no start.

Hello all first post here. Pardon if my format is irregular. I have a 2011 df250 while running last night in calm seas running about 35mph around 5000rpm motor shut off with no warning. Tried to restart. Motor cranks but will not fire. Continuous single beep every few seconds. No display on either my nmea network via my lorance unit or digital suzuki gauges. Got towed in last night. Popped the cover off this morning found my main 30 amp fuse blown. Tried replacing and blew immediately. Got a handful of fuses, unplugged everything, plug stuff in 1 by 1 till it blew. Seems as the grey wire from engine main relay to engine ECU has about .3 to .4 ohms resistance to ground. NO BUENO. Unplugged the Engine ecu and fuse is fine, as soon as I plug it in bam snap fuse is toast. I believe I have warranty on the ECU, however is there something else that may be blowing this from the other side of the ECU? Anyone have any other suggestions before i tow it in the the suzuki service center?
    Thanks in advance,
    Shaun

    ***Update Fixed***

Hello all, after trying to make sure ECU was not faulty found that short was still there with ECU unplugged. Traced it down to the power wire for what I think is the cam advance solenoid. Found that it had rubbed through the wiring at the wire loom bracket. Upon further inspection found bracket was installed in the wrong direction, flipped it around repaired the wiring popped a new 30 amp fuse in for the main engine relay and what do you know started right up. Hope this helps someone. Just FYI it is a real PITA chasing down the grey power wires as they seem to go to everything and really aren't marked differently.

Thanks for posting up the solution to your dilemma, GhostRider. Nice that you can contribute after only two visits to the forum. Might well help someone else in the future.

Mate the reason you thought the ecu was crook is when you turn the key to the on position the ecu puts the ground on the power relay, the contacts close and battery voltage is switched from ignition feed to ignition supply, gray wire that feeds your injectors coils iac fuel pump ect, so you would not have put any stress on the ecu, the voltage drop there is governed by the relay coil.

          No power

Hi, I too am brand new to this site and I too have a problem.

Worldcat SD27 with twin DF225 Suzukis. All 2009.

Had a lovely day out chasing Americas Cup contenders a few weeks ago here n Bermuda.

All went according to plan until port engine died while under power. Tried to restart but would not engage. Raised engine and motored into more sheltered waters, paralleled the batteries and tried to restart with no result. Proceeded to drop off passengers and then back to mooring.

Console diagnostic showed error code 4-2 CKP sensor.

Thought that the battery (2009) might be suspect so purchased a suitable replacement and did the install.

At this point the engine could move up and down but the starter tried to do its job until I heard the CLICK. After that nothing. I repeated the process but always ended with a CLICK.

Mechanic friend removed starter and bench tested it and then disassembled it. Says its shot as the inside is all carbonized. Made sense as that engine was very hard to start. Bought a new starter motor, installed it. Used the other engine as a model to make certain starter installed exactly.

Now no power to engine. No tilt from binnacle or the engine and no turnover.

So here I sit. No power at the helm. No power if I try to tilt motor at the unit.

Looked into the "white wire" which is directly connected to the port battery. Traced the white wire to the engine but the connectors all look and feel solid.

All fuses are good as I swapped them out between engines.

          Battery is fully charged.

I have 12 volts at the starter. My hand gauge only shows % of charge but it's the same as what I see at the battery.

I have the shop manuals for the boat and engine but cannot see where the problem comes from.

Mechanics here are $85/HR even though they are not certified.

I have an appointment on Friday with the only factory certified mechanic available but it's going to cost a cool $300 to get a computer diagnostic done.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

            wont start

You probably checked already, but you can have voltage and a bad ground and get the same results you have now. Just a thought, check all electrical connections, clean regardless what they look like and spray with corrosin x and put back together.

              Hi Top,

It's been several weeks since I ordered the replacement starter from Browns Point Marine. Last week I recharged the battery at home and then reinstalled. I took sandpaper to the terminals and connectors before doing the reconnect.

Similarly I sandpapered the leads going to the starter motor before the install.

The batteries are controlled from a panel in the steering station. Yesterday I undid all the cables one switch at a time sanded them and reconnected. Starboard engine runs perfectly but there is nothing happening on the port side.

I have checked every fuse I can find on the boat. There was a bit of corrosion in places and I did meticulously clean every occurance.

After each reconnect I try the port engine but sadly without any progress.

My next step will I suppose be to pull the binnacle controls. They and the engines were all checked by my regular mechanic last March and all worked fine until late December when the failure occurred.

There is fuel going to the engine, the flywheel moves.

The digital displays illuminate when the starboard battery is turned on and it shows "ok" for the port and starboard engines. I've been back and forth so many times I can't remember if the displays illuminate with just the port battery turned on.

I've got lots of hair on my head but it's getting thinner by the day.

Welcome to the forum, AlbertinBermuda. Just for your future reference, next time you have a problem with your Suzuki, please start your own thread, instead of replying to someone else's thread with your problem. No worry this time, just keep it in mind for next time. At the top left of the thread list, there's a red button that says "New Thread." Just click on that, give your thread a title and go for it. Doing that doesn't "hijack" a thread started by someone else, who might not really be through with his issue yet, and it makes it more likely that you will get the help you need for your issue. Thanks....

Didn't see the new thread button but will look out for it going forward.
