2009 motor came with boat. I wasn't sure on general upkeep so I did plug, oil, lower gear oil... Worked great for about 4 hrs. Starts and runs fine. When I go to shift however , I hear a small grinding sound coming from the upper bushing/shifter arm??? One thing to add when I first was running the motor I noticed the idle screw was cranked in all the way, which I backed off. Took upper and lower unit off gear case and drive shaft look good. Not familiar with how the drive shaft connects to motor and how the shifter engages it all. Any help would be much appreciated.

one question I might ask
when you shift.. are you shifting quickly or letting it kind of drag into gear?
my experience has been they don't like to be slowly engaged..

I did shift it slowly. After it stopped grabbing in gear, I then tried both fast and slow. I don't know how the motor was shifted the previous 8 years prior to me owning it.Comment
