Suzuki 2016 DF2.5

I recently purchased a 2016 Suzuki DF2.5 outboard. My question is, when transporting in the horizontal position, to avoid leakage, can I turn off the fuel cock and run the gas out of the line and carburetor instead of removing the cover and draining the carburetor as noted in the owners manual?
Any response would be appreciated.

Fuel cock stops fuel from tank entering the carb.At bottom of carb is a fuel bowl which should be drained so I would think what you are saying is correct closeting fuel cock then running should empty the bowl and avoid any leaks during transport
