  • Suzuki DT2.2 timing

I have a Suzuki DT2.2 1990 model which I have just rebuilt with new piston rings, bearings, oil seals, spark plug, carburettor clean etc. After putting it all back together I can get it to start and idle perfectly. However, it will not accelerate! When the throttle is opened it runs roughly, blows blue smoke and misses badly. I think the timing may be out but I do not know how to check / adjust the timing on the DT2.2. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Have you had the same problem (engine won't rev out) and how did you solve the problem.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

    Since no one has responded..
it has been a long time since I needed to use a timing light
but I think from memory there should be a mark on the fly wheel
someplace around 10 +/- degrees BTDC

but that is only a guess
probably should get your hands on service manual that will tell you exactly how to set the timing and at what degree BTDC

      Suzuki DT2.2

Problem solved. I re-set the gap between the flywheel (magnet) and the CDI coil to about 0.1mm and the engine works / accelerates perfectly. I had originally set it at about a 0.5mm separation. It seems the bigger the separation the weaker the spark and at 2mm separation I could not even get the engine to fire.

I hope others find this useful!
